Taking a trip to Harrietts Bluff Farm is a fun, family-friendly outing,
like a trip to the beach. Be sure to come prepared for the South Georgia
Summer! You might want to bring cold drinks (plenty of water!),
sunscreen, and bug repellent (please make sure you apply bug repellent
before you enter the field, as the chemicals are bad for organic
production). Be sure to wear cool clothes, including comfortable shoes
and a hat if desired. These preparations are especially important for the
little ones!
You will want to bring containers to transport your berries home. An
ice chest without ice works well. Keep in mind that the berries of
fragile.
We have water and a very clean port-a potty from Farmer Johns at the farm. The water is pumped from a well, so it does have
sulfur, but it is fine for drinking and washing hands. We also have
picnic tables for lunch or supper.
When in the field, please don’t stand on the plant beds. This
compacts the soil and damages the plastic mulch which we use to control
weeds. Also be aware that there may be fire ants in the field. We try
our best to keep the fire ants out of the field, but it is difficult to
get rid of all of them. Parents, please make sure your little ones do
not encounter the ants, and feel free to tell a worker about any ant
beds you find.
Also please refrain from smoking or spraying bug repellent in the field.
These chemicals are not allowed in the field because of organic
production guidelines.
We accept payment in the form of cash and check. Sorry, no credit cards.
Call Gerard at (229) 392-1388 for availability of pre-picked fruit.
Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you at the farm!
